Flash Player: Why Do I Have To Have Shockwave To View Flash Animations Online? (1/27/2012)

I put in my website, a .SWF file, which is shockwave flash. In internet explorer it looks like it's trying to download shockwave but it never gets it. However, in firefox it works and when i right click on the .SWF animation, it says at the bottom of the menu "adobe flash player". So why is internet explorer wanting to use shockwave to view flash instead of a flash player????
