Flash Drive Sandisk: Best Type Of Camcorder To Get? (2/21/2012)
I have a broken down vhs c camcorder that I got about 8 or 9 years ago (about $ 500 then I think), after my first kid was born, so I figured it was time to upgrade. I have been looking around online and it looks like I have been out of the game too long, because now there are a hundred different types from a hundred different brands. The minidv, the dvds, the minidvds, the hard drive ones, the flash ones, on and on. I just want a cheap camera where I can record my kids growing up and maybe be able to transfer them to my computer so I could splice stuff together and record it all on a DVD. But not so cheap that like the audio and video don't sync you know? I have seen some real cheap ones for like for $ 100, but I don't know if that means they are garbage or if camcorder prices have just come down that far. After reviewing what everyone else says, all I get are opinions from people who love to digitally edit and put stuff on youtube, and I don't care about that, just want to record my kids, vacations, special moments, and watch in on TV sometime in the future. So what do all yall suggest? Thanks in advance.
wow dude, that is exactly what I was looking for! It sounds like the miniDV is the type I want. Thanks for your super explanation. 10 pts coming your way.....

Flash Drive Sandisk: Suggestions For A Cult Classic Collection? (2/20/2012)
I'm trying to start up a collection of Cult Classic films. I may also try starting up a youtube account to make video reviews of them.
My current collection:
Attack of The Killer Tomatoes
Barbarella
Beetlejuice
Big Trouble In Little China
the original Clash of The Titans
The Craft
three David Lynch movies- Blue Velvet, Lost Highway, and Mulholland Drive
Donnie Darko
The Evil Dead Series
Flash Gordon
Fright Night (My favorite vampire movie recently turned cult apparently)
Harold & Maude
Logan's Run
Monty Python & The Holy Grail, Life of Brian
Phantasm
Pink Flamingos
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Sordid Lives
the original The Stepford Wives
Suspiria
Tokyo Gore Police
The Warriors
Westworld
*some of these I just looked online. Several sites claimed that some of these were concidered recently deemed cult classics. So if you do not believe the movies on the list I have are not considered this then that's why.
What other films do I need to be on the lookout for?
What would you personally recommend?

Canon Rebel Xti – question!?
Well, today I got the Canon Rebel Xti with SLR.
And it's in proper condition, no defects or anything.
The only thing is the memory card it came with is pure crap. And the battery.
We've had the battery charging since last night and most of today, and I put it into the camera the most it can bare to do it make the 'on' switch light up. Then I put it back on the charge, and there's a red light meaning low battery.
Also, it says " ERROR CR!" referring to my memory card. It wouldn't even let me format it when I DID have enough battery power.
So, I'm going to go out to Best Buy tomorrow and purchase a Sandisk or Kingston memory card, because I heard those are good quality and also send out to Canon for a new battery.
Will this solve my problem or has this happened to anyone else who has better solutions?
Advice and suggestions greatly appreciated!!

I had to restore my laptop back to factory settings the other night. I saved all my important files to my PNY USB Flash Drive. This morning, after I finished the set up on my laptop, I plugged in the flash drive and it worked. But then I had to unplug it to do something else. Now, whenever I plug it back in, the drive doesn't register at all! There's no little pop up at the bottom of the screen saying that the new driver has been installed and it doesn't show up on the "My Computer" screen as "Removable Disk (F:) like it should. Help?
@Pera: Thank you~ I tried rebooting it, but it didn't work.
I'm going to try it on a different computer. If that doesn't work...well... >.> But thank you for answering.

I am installing the Ubuntu 9.04 Netbook Remix (http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download-netbook) OS and I have an 8 GB Lexar USB drive. I want to be able to use the flash drive normally for school to open Microsoft Word/Powerpoint documents, etc. and was curious if I could have those on the drive as well as an installed OS.
I chose the answer I thought suitable but I also found out that you can make a flash drive partitioned, and this is what I want to do so that I can have that capability.

On my way to work today I got flashed. I have to drive by this camera everyday since its been installed (5 years?). Anyway, as I'm coming to a stop I see the initial flash go off and then I'm sitting there in total disbelief as I the camera takes the shot. I cant wait to see the puzzled look on my face. So my question is: Are the red light camera tickets reviewed before a citation is issued. Will some be able to determine I was stopped, and possibly not issue the citation? This is a total bummer. Last thing I need is to fight a $ 300+ ticket. This has truly ruined my day.
I should add, I'm in N. California if that make any difference.

Flash Drive Sandisk: USB Flash Drive Will NOT Remember Folder View Options? (2/16/2012)

Any other folders on my computer's hard drive DO remember the folder view options. I have the check box checked to remember folder views under folder options, but yet my jump drive still will not remember. This is the case no matter what computer it is plugged into.

Flash Drive Sandisk: Can I Screw A 3x Zoom Multiplier(Point&Shoot) Into The End Filter Ring Of Nikkor DX Lens With Same Mm Threads? (2/15/2012)
Even though it's outdated by Netbook standards, the Asus Eee PC 701 was reliable and durable companion during my travels through Southeast Asia and Australia. Although I would recommend the Series 901 for those interested in mobile computing, a quick look at the 701 gives a good baseline comparison for what you might look for in a Netbook. The standard 701 features: - Xandros (Linux) operating system - 7" screen (800x480 resolution) - 900 MHz Celeron processor - 512Mb RAM (upgradable to 1Gb) - 4Gb Solid State Hard Drive - 802.11b/g WiFi - Ethernet Port - 3 USB 2.0 ports - Headphone and Microphone jack - Monitor Output Port - Expandable SD Card Slot - 1.3 megapixel integrated webcam - Kensington Lock - 4 cell 5200 mAH Battery with small battery charger - Neoprene Carry Case - Listed Battery Life is 3.5 hours but my own tests have yielded 2h15m under heavy usage This laptop worked great during my trip. I only moved on to the 901 because of the small screen and the inability to install programs with the stock Xandros operating system. This video was shot with a Canon G9 on loan.
I have been thinking about an upgrade from a Point and Shoot to a D-SLR for over a year now mainly because my Kodak 5MP is 6 years old now, has an adapter to use Kodak's Wide Angle lens which blocks the flash and I have no focus control.
I really haven't considered any other brands like Canon or Fujifilm, Pentax because I had been set on a Nikon. Specifically the D80. I finally decide after reading countless reviews and the like that I am going to be getting a D80, I have already ordered an 8GB SDHC 150X with 20Mb/s write speed card for my camera.
I had originally thought I was going to get the kit from Best Buy which was the D80 with an Extra Battery, a Case, and an 18 - 135mm and a 70 - 300mm. The latter lens alone is $ 567(on sale which is normally $ 630). The body only comes in at $ 800 and finally the 18 - 135 at $ 400
That brings the separate total to $ 1767 and $ 1830 without the sale price on the 70 - 300mm lens respectively. Basically this means that in their kit price of 1767 they are giving you $ 100 for the battery and case.
I thought this was an OK deal but I began looking at the kit and I knew absolutely nothing about the lenses from the mm to what they catch in the viewfinder (SLR means what you see is what you get) or anything. I did research to find out what I need to know and I looked at a few friends cameras and set their lenses manually to the same mm specs and took some pictures that I normally would take with my old camera and wow, that gave me a reality check. I now know that I definitely don't want the ranges of lenses that come in that kit.
I start thinking about the information I have at hand and my budget of around $ 1800, taking into consideration that I mainly use Wide Angles for landscape type shots, I realize that 18mm just is not going to cut it on the low end. I learned that 35mm and below is considered wide but the wide angle on my Kodak must be a Semi-Fish-Eye to Super Wide Angle type. I need a much lower mm to be the width I need at the short distance I am shooting from. Generally the closer to 0 degrees you get the faster the width goes wider so from 18 - 12 is a huge difference which is equivalent to say 70 - 120mm at medium focal length.
I start looking for wide angle Nikon lenses and come across the Nikkor 12 - 24mm which is perfect for what I am wanting (108 degree viewing angle at 12mm) but holy cow this lens is $ 1099. I am on a bit of a budget so... If I have absolutely got to have this lens I do need one more I think well I and going to use the telephoto a lot too so the logical choice is the 70 - 300mm. So were talking $ 600 $ 1100 $ 800 = $ 2500 without a bag or spare battery and I realize that the most used mm spec is 35mm(SLR is Film or 35mm) give or take 15mm so we are talking a 20 - 50mm lens. OK Nikon has a 17 - 55mm but it is another $ 850 or I could get the 18 - 135mm for $ 400 with extra zoom but a plastic mounting ring rather than metal.
So this bumps me into the $ 3500 range which is double mu budget. So then I talk to a photographer who suggests non OEM lenses so online at a review of the 12 - 24mm Nikkor and several comparable models and I decide to get the 10 - 20mm Sigma Wide Angle that supports the AF-S functionality of the Nikon D-SLR so AF works (Meaning that the Auto Focus and Silent Wave Motor or Sigma's version of it are driven by the AF function of the D80) and this one is significantly cheaper at around $ 500 pairing that with a more expensive 18 - 200mm for around $ 800 and I'm more in the ball park with $ 2200, it is a better option to spend more on that lense with VR (Vibration Reduction) and have one less lens so the 18 - 135 and 70 - 200 are not split into two lenses which would increase price about $ 500 and I would be switching all the time.
With these two lenses paired I have all the ranges I want except for the upper telephoto topping out at 200mm. This gets me thinking about something, all the lenses have threads for external filters and the lens hood snaps over but is also the same mm measurement. Why can I not buy a 3x multiplier and screw into the end of the 18 - 200mm making it into a 54 - 600mm lens?
That is the question I am asking you guys...can i do that. The screw in lens is made for the lower end cameras such as point and shoot but if the threads are the same and nothing comes out of the end of the lens which I know it will not because the filters could not be installed otherwise. Can't I use that just for long telephoto which is usually pretty specific of a shot such as a bird or something. There is the possibility that the WYSIWYG will view the outside diameter of the 3X lens showing a ring and black corners on the final picture which is can be easily cropped out anyway.
What do you guys think? the 3x multiplier is $ 100 verses $ 1600 for a 80 - 500mm lens. The only problem I could see as a possibility would be the filters screwing on the outside versus the 3x screwing on internally.

Flash Drive Sandisk: Why Is My One Flash Drive Showing As A Local Disk But The Other As A Removable Disk? (2/12/2012)
Boot XP from Compact Flash Card. Afterwards, Mediaportal is started from the network. All within 40 seconds after power button pressed.
I have a Lexar JumpDrive, which isn't really one of the best brands to go with, but it was cheap. When i plug it, it shows up in my computer, and under "type" it says local disk. When i plug in my new sandisk CruzerMini, it shows as a removable disk. This isn't too much of a problem until i move my flash drives over to my win 98 machine. I have an autorun.inf in both of them, both files are identical, and there's only enough there to tell the computer to use the ico file named to represent the drive. Although that's not really importaint, it also won't do any other autorun things i setup, that the lexar one will. Anyone have any idea how i can set my sandisk thing as a local disk instead of a removable one?
i understand that, but the old one shows up as a local disk and i want to know how to mess up my system and tell it the new one is as well.

Flash Drive Sandisk: Xbox Sandisk Cruzer Problem! Please Help? (2/11/2012)
My R4 Micro SD Card problems. Hope this helps you if you are getting an R4 revolution.
Hello. I bought two 16gb Sandisk Cruzer's. They were 79.99 each, and are listed as high speed. I've read in lists that this is the best choice next to the official brand. My problem is this. One of them meets the requirments, and one doesn't. They are both exactly the same too? I'm confused and aggrevated. Why one and not the other? They are the same. 80 dollar usb drives each! One works! Help please?

So I have a Blu-Ray BD-P1590. It said that if you buy a flash drive, it will let you see pictures, videos, and music. So i did, and went out to buy a PNY 4GB flash drive. I put music, and pictures, and was able to see them very well. Now when i DELETED everything inside the flash drive ( all the music and pictures that ive put in) and only put videos on the flash drive. So i put the flash drive in the usb port, but nothing. Videos didnt want to play. So i was wondering if there was a specific format that i should of converted the videos to. I already tried Mpg2, WMV, and Mpeg-4v2. Another thing i should try, or should i update the firmware of my blu ray and that will defitnetly help the video issue? Or whats another thing i should do?
This is the first of many videos to come on this setup! I've been busy working on a way to get multiple monitors to work using multiple graphics cards under the latest versions of Ubuntu. I had been testing intrepid but now that KDE 4.2.2 and Jaunty are available, I've gone ahead and moved to it. I'll be posting an extensive HOWTO in the Ubuntu forums on how this was done. I've hacked to gether the retired xserver-xgl from Ubuntu Hardy to get it to work w/ Jaunty Jackalope. Now we have it working with KDE 4.2.2 with full compiz fusion effects and mouse gestures using EasyStroke ( easystroke.wiki.sourceforge.net ) as you can see from this video! Enjoy the show and stay tuned for more! We are working out some last minute bugs and will be posting links here and the info in the Ubuntu Forums..
